How fast can a seahorse swim? |
 |
Unlike other fishes, seahorses lack a caudal (tail) fin. The caudal fin usually provides the main power for swimming forward. Seahorses must rely instead on their dorsal (back) fin to push them through the water. They're good at swimming in small spaces and making turns but they're not very fast. However, seahorses are masters of disguise and are better off hiding from their predators than trying to swim away.
