I just got a new seahorse from the fish store. Its yellow with tiny black dots. What species is it?
Species identification is one of the most difficult aspects of seahorse keeping. If it was a captive bred seahorse, you can probably find out the species from the store you purchased it from. If it is wild, it could be very difficult. A good book for this purpose is "Seahorses, an identification guide to the worlds species and their conservation" by Sara A. Lourie, Amanda CJ Vincent, and Heather J. Hall. YOu can also check our quick id guide to try to identify the species.
