What is cycling? | |||||
All fish and invertebrates excrete ammonia as a waste product. This is extremely toxic. There is a group of beneficial bacteria that convert ammonia into nitrites, and a second group of bacteria that convert nitrites into nitrates, which is not nearly as toxic. A new tank does not have these bacteria.
'Cycling' is the process of introducing and establishing these essential bacteria There is an article in our library that fully explains the method to cycle a tank. Related Topics: | |||||
